Winning Streak Hits Eight For The Blues -
from Jeremy Rutherford of The Athletic, One could make the case that the St. Louis Blues haven’t played a poor game since a 5-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 31. Sure, they were sloppy in a 6-5 shootout win over the Chicago Blackhawks, but a win’s a win. Yeah, they lost 6-3 to the Dallas Stars and 5-3 to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they outplayed those teams for large portions of the games. And since that loss to the Penguins, they haven’t come up on the wrong end once. The Blues won their eighth straight game Thursday, 3-2 over the Nashville Predators. They are 16-3-3 since that drubbing in Denver, a points percentage of .795 that ranks No. 1 in the NHL in that stretch. Now, Jim Montgomery’s club heads back to Denver for a rematch with the Avalanche at 3:30 p.m. CT Saturday. It does so having posted perhaps its most impressive victory in a while, which is saying a lot. The obvious choice for that distinction would be th

Those Empty Net Goals -
from Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, It’s got to be a one-timer from the left circle, right? Probably on the power play. You can picture it so easily — down on one knee, getting all of it, blasting a hole in the back of the net. That’s how Alex Ovechkin gets No. 895. A breakaway could be fun, too. He doesn’t get as many of those these days, but back in the day, few things were more terrifying than Ovechkin hurtling through the neutral zone with a full head of steam. A rebound or a deflection would be a little less memorable, but Ovechkin’s done plenty of damage around the net in the last 20 years. It’s not ideal, not the kind of goal you put on a poster, but it could work. Just not an empty-net goal, right? Anything but an empty-netter. So anticlimactic. So easy. So unworthy of the accomplishment. There’s just something about scoring when the opposing goalie is pulled, isn’t there? Like those goals shouldn’t count the same as a perfectly hit one-timer o

Canadiens @ Blues Top Six Minutes: The road trip begins with a 5-1 loss -
First periodA rare error from Jayden Srruble as he misplays the puck behind the net and St. Louis gets a chance from it, but Samuel Montembeault makes a big save on the opening shot of the game.So far this is looking a lot like the start to the Avalanche game on Saturday. Montreal can barely get the puck over its own blue line.Every puck battle, no matter where it is, has one Habs player and two opponents.
