The No. 6-ranked Saint Rose women’s soccer team wins home opener 3-0

The performance by the No. 6-ranked Saint Rose women’s soccer team in its non conference home opener against Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday can be described in one word. Relentless. The Golden Knights (3-0-0) looked every bit like one of the top teams in the nation as they registered a resounding 3-0 victory over the visiting Redhawks (2-1-0). Junior forward Mia Klammer got the scoring started for Saint Rose in the 6th minute off a beautiful feed from the left side of the box from freshman midfielder Sydney Myers. It was a perfect setup that Klammer finished with ease. Following the opening goal, the Redhawks’ defense fended off a slew of attacks by Saint Rose, aided by several sensational saves by goalkeeper Nicolette Knauf (6 saves). Knauf saved a handful of shots that looked destined for the back of the net. Klammer maintained her attacks on the Redhawks’ defense throughout the first half, and spirited play by graduate midfielder Elina Seppala helped the Golden Knights control action up the middle. “I try to give all my energy and all my effort just for everybody else on the team,” Klammer said. “Because I ask them to do that and I don’t want to give them anything less for myself. Despite the Golden Knights’ one goal advantage, the first half remained very even, with each team taking turns applying offensive pressure. Roberts Wesleyan mounted several promising attacks on the wings, led by sophomore forward Alena Weibel, but the tremendous play by senior midfield/back Jada Brown and graduate back Sanna Rein helped Saint Rose maintain its one-goal advantage. “We have a great relationship…a great bond…the trust is there,” said Brown, from Mechanicville. “We work hard for each other, and I think that’s what separates...
